Welcome to Apron Strings: The Ties that Bind

In one way or another our mother’s cooking is important. Whether it’s because it was so bad (Woody Allen accused his mom of putting the chicken in the” deflavorizer”), so wonderful, or because so much happened around the food–family fights, family meals, family events, etc.

We want to take pause and invite you to share your foremoms’ food and food stories with us. Read writers’ and thinkers’ reflections on their moms and food, watch the videos shot in the homes of moms and grannys in Toronto and, of course, participate.

Help us build an archive of recipes and stories that capture the vital connection between our foremoms and food that, at their best, nourish us body and soul (even when the food has been through the deflavourizer)
