Many of us are anticipating the arrival of the Great Pumpkin with the unabashed excitement and enthusiasm exhibited by Linus Van Pelt. Once the costumes are ready and the trick or treat bags assembled, what’s next? How about planning a small Halloween Party of your own that demonstrates the diversity of this jack o all trades.
Pumpkin is one of the most versatile, intriguing and healthful ingredients you can find on the planet. Whether fresh or from the can, pumpkin is low in Saturated Fat, and very low in Cholesterol and Sodium. It is also a good source of Vitamin E (Alpha Tocopherol), Thiamin, Niacin, Vitamin B6, Folate, Iron, Magnesium and Phosphorus, and a very good source of Dietary Fiber, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Riboflavin, Potassium, Copper and Manganese.
On its own, pumpkin is hardly the life of the party, so it’s best to tart it up in as many ways as you can dream up; even pumpkin gets to wear a costume, weather it is masquerading as a pie, fondue, bisque, cake or cheesecake.
Here are three delicious pumpkin recipes you may want to serve at a party in honour of this storied vegetable. Start with a Pumpkin Soup served in hollowed out mini pumpkins, a medium pumpkin makes a festive tureen for pumpkin fondue and finish with this beautiful pumpkin flan.

Great Pumpkin Punch
2.5 ounces of rum
1 ounce of pineapple juice
3/4 ounce of lemon juice
3/4 ounce of orange juice
1 tablespoon of spiced pumpkin puree
1 tablespoon date or pomegranate molasses
1 dash of bitters
