When I was growing up, my Mom went through a rough patch health-wise. Today, those same issues (gallbladder & others) would be mere inconveniences, but back then, they required multiple surgery stays. When Mom ended up in the hospital, Dad ended up doing the care giving, even though my Grandmother lived with us. See, Grandma could do prep work, but she could not cook. Which meant, we survived on Dad’s cooking.
Let’s just say Dad’s repertoire was very small: hot dog & scrambled eggs. It wasn’t too bad when he served them for separate meals, but one day he got creative and BLENDED the two into a single meal. Yikes! Not only did it not taste good, but, well, let’s just say we visited Mom in the hospital that day and the meal made it to the hospital in me, but didn’t make it all the way home!
Dad tried hard, but he was no chef!
Today, he has added grilled chicken and grilled steak to his menu, and cooks mainly on the BBQ. It is better for all involved that he stays away from the stove!
Love my Dad, but his cooking when I was a child….well, not so much!
