Celebrate Ontario Beer for Valentine’s Day

We recently posted an initiative  put forth by the Wine Council of Ontario suggesting a new model for distributing and accessing Ontario wines, and we feel it is only fair to give the beer lovers amongst us equal time. February is a big month for celebrating Ontario Craft Brewers and their winter beers, with the Super Bowl this past Sunday and Valentine’s Day in a couple weeks. Beer and wings for the Super Bowl might seem like a no-brainer, but beer for Valentine’s Day? Why not?

To lift our spirits this February, The Canadian Beer News (CBN) is co-sponsoring a series of events  that pair local craft breweries with dinners prepared by guest chefs at numerous locations around town. On Sunday, February 10th CBN and Parkdale’s Rhino Restaurant and Bar will co-present the 1st Annual Rhino Winter Beer Festival, a celebration of winter-friendly beers from more than 20 local craft breweries. The day long activities kick off at 11 a.m. and run until 6 p.m. and are guaranteed to kick the winter blahs in the butt.

This winter celebration will offer Barley Wines, Imperial Stouts, Barrel-Aged Ales and other Winter Warmers from breweries including…

Amsterdam – Beau’s – Beer Academy – Bellwoods – Black Oak – Cameron’s – Cheshire Valley – Church Key– F&M – Grand River – Granite – Great Lakes – Hogtown – Indie Ale House – Lake of Bays – MacLean’s Ales– Mill Street – Nickel Brook – Sawdust City – Silversmith – Snowman – Spearhead

…plus rare bottles from Rhino’s cellar.

The event offers 3 admission options:

VIP TICKETS – $40 – includes 11 AM entry, breakfast buffet, 10 sample tickets & souvenir glass

REGULAR TICKETS – $20 – includes 12 noon entry, 5 sample tickets & souvenir glass

GENERAL ADMISSION – no charge – 1 PM entry

Additional sample tickets will be available for $2 each, and food will also be available to purchase.

If you have to miss this beery and cheery event, fret not, you can still catch up on some beer-fuelled romance or bromance at another event sponsored by CBN and Great Lakes Breweries. Maybe this year you can think outside the heart-shaped box and take your Valentine to an evening out featuring oysters, hors d’oeuvres  and a four course dinner prepared by one of the city’s best chefs, with selected beer pairings to boot!

CBN and Great Lakes Brewery -Toronto’s Oldest Craft Brewery-will be celebrating Valentine’s Day at Bar Hop with a beer pairing dinner prepared by guest chef Tim Steele. Steele has spent time in the kitchens at Black Hoof, Raw Bar, c5, the Healthy Butcher and Chantecler. He’s also staged abroad at Noma in Copenhagen and Mistral in Stockholm. The dinner is four courses for $75 and that includes the tip!

show Ontario brewers some love this Valentine’s Day

We at Fiesta Farms think that a great dinner is a life enhancing experience. One that is shared with family and friends, prepared with locally grown and farmed produce and enhanced with Ontario wines or beers. We are always thrilled to support local artisanal brewers, winemakers and chefs who have devoted their lives to enriching ours. With so many exciting things going on this winter, maybe getting out once in a while is not such a bad thing!
