Bombolone: So Much More Than A Doughnut

Classic Bombolone

Classic Bombolone

The beautiful bombolone – think a jelly doughnut, but with more heft – is a perfect bombshell of a pastry. Often stuffed with vanilla custard or nutella, rolled in sugar and topped with a dot of the filling, like a little teaser on top, these delicious treats are an Italian specialty. Not to be confused with sufganiyot or zeppole, canoli or sfogliatella – the bombolone, and it’s diminutive form, the adorable bomboloni, will finally get the recognition it deserves. Support Toronto’s Small Breweries

“Give my people plenty of beer, good beer and cheap beer, and you will have no revolution among them.”-Queen Victoria

It would kind of suck if you wanted to put out a nice cheese board, but the only stuff available came from KRAFT. Here we have KRAFT single slices, here, Velveeta, how about a little cheese whiz on that cracker? Imagine not having access to great local cheese like Monforte or Thornloe or any of your favourites, if all your cheese came from some conglomerate more concerned with the bottom line than anything else. It’s important for us as consumers to support our local artisanal brewers, bakers and candlestick makers, not simply for altruistic reasons, but because most often the product they craft is more delicious. So it is with one of our favourite food groups, Beer.

Wild For Blueberries

Blueberries

Last year we did a post on wild blueberries that was a big hit with our readers, so we think it’s fair that we alert you all to a few “Blueberry Socials” coming up soon. You won’t want to miss out. Continue »

We had you at “Beer Festival” didn’t we.  Now we know that the summer is a great time to hang out with the kids, but let’s face it; they could use a little time for themselves, and you could certainly use a break, so why not earmark Friday July 26 as the perfect evening to let them sleep over at their friends’ while you and your friends head down to the historic Art Deco Bandshell at the CNE grounds to experience Canada’s biggest beer extravaganza, the nineteenth annual Toronto’s Festival of Beer.
