Have you got your Canada Day menu planned yet? For many of us, Canada Day calls for picnics with a variety of fruit, fresh vegetables, cold beverages, maybe potato salad, corn on the cob and for the meat lovers in the gang, hamburgers, hot dogs and sausages.
Especially on busy holidays, making hamburgers from scratch is not always an option, so when you’re buying pre-formed burgers it’s nice to know exactly what you’re getting, and that you can trust that they are ethically sourced and healthy. With hot dogs and sausages it’s often more of a gamble, as they both have a bit of a rep of being made from less-than-desirable cuts of meat. Enter Life Choices Responsibly Raised Meat.
“We believe that you are what you eat eats, and that is why our cows and pigs are raised on pasture. The cows graze and are fed grass, and our chickens are free range. All of our animals are raised without the use of added hormones or antibiotics. We believe in traditional farming methods, treating our animals and land with dignity and respect. We had it right 100 years ago – we’ve gone back to that.”
Life Choices grass-fed burgers, all-beef hot dogs and pork sausages are made without the use of antibiotics or hormones. The hot dogs and sausages are made from choice cuts, and never “mechanically separated meat.” All the beef is pasture-raised and traceable back to its ranches of origin. This makes for a better experience for the consumer, the environment, and a better and healthier quality of life for the animals that were raised for this purpose. Here’s a great story from the Toronto Star that gives the history about the Life Choices Company, started by Thornbury’s von Teichman family.
