The Prince Edward county’s annual wine festival is taking place at the Crystal Palace in Picton this Saturday. PEC is the fastest growing wine region in the country and people will be celebrating that fact all day. Try wines from Rosehall Run, Karlo Estates, Closson Chase, Huff Estates, Hinterland and many many more. There will also be a Wings & Wine contest featuring PEC chefs battling it out for best barbecue chicken wings. The kicker? They must include PEC wine in their recipe. Another contest will feature wine jellies and both battles will offer tastes for the crowd.

That part of Ontario is a special place – people like Jamie Kennedy and Norm Hardie have known that for years and are well established on their properties out there – that Toronto is just starting to notice. If you’ve never been it’s worth a visit, so picturesque and quiet with a strong sense of community, a vibrant food scene and a great deal of expected growth in the next few years.

There will be a PEC pop-up at the Drake One Fifty on June 2nd when chef Matt DeMille will serve a sneak peak menu featuring some of the dishes he plans to serve at the Drake Devonshire when it opens in PEC later this year. Expect to be hearing a lot more about this neck of the woods over the next few months, and take any opportunity to get out there and see it for yourself.
