We live in crazy times, times of war and fear-mongering and masses of refugees running for safety. At this time of year when we’re all celebrating with our friends and families safe in our comfortable homes, overeating, overdrinking and enjoying so many new presents, maybe we should give a thought to how we can help make the world a better place.

Take a few minutes to watch the clip above, it is impossible not to be moved by it.

There are a number of ways to help the refugees our Prime Minister is letting into the country. Here are just a few compiled by the Toronto Star. Be a proud Canadian and help to welcome your new neighbours.

There is a recipe for a special Syrian kebab called a Cherry Kebab, it is made with ground lamb cooked with sour cherries. The balance of tart and sweet makes for a delicious dish and one you should learn how to make, who knows who’ll you’ll be inviting for dinner in the coming months?

There are a number of variations, this one posted by Anissa Halou, using dried Syrian sour cherries, pomegranate molasses and a garnish of pine nuts and parsley, seems to be the most authentic.
