On Thursday, March 31st, the visionaries behind The Green Line are celebrating an evening of music, fun, art and prizes to raise funds and awareness for the Green Line project. The Green Line is a project that aims to transform the five kilometre long hydro corridor running from Earlscourt park to Spadina into a connected linear park with green space, and walking and bike and trails. The Green Line flows through and nearby several neighbourhoods that the City has identified as needing more parkland. These same areas also lack safe, adequate corridors for active transportation like cycling, running and walking.

We need more than wires to connect us

The land along the Green Line represents a series of underused urban spaces that offer an opportunity to tackle both of these challenges at once: by creating a linear park and a continuous pedestrian and cycling link from Davenport Village to the Annex. Nine city parks are located along the hydro corridor right now, which are well-used and include amenities like community gardens, splash pads, and sports fields. However, many are in poor condition and, crucially, are disconnected from each other by parking lots, grade changes, and fences. The Green Line would change that by creating a cohesive vision to link these parks together and create one connected park and trail that links a range of neighbourhoods from Davenport Village to the Annex.

Hundreds of community members have signed on as the Friends of the Green Line but there is still much to do make this vision a reality. Getting involved is easy and fun, and wouldn’t it be an awesome thing to have this great space? Here’s some of what you can expect at the Fun(d) raiser:

  • Live Music featuring Coral King (members of Hush Pup) and Girls Rock Camp
  • A silent auction with great prizes, including 4 Blue Jays tickets, MEC cycling gear, Penguin Random House book package, a two-year Spacing subscription, and much more.
  • Great snacks including a table by Fat Pasha
