The beautiful bombolone – think a jelly doughnut, but with more heft – is a perfect bombshell of a pastry. Often stuffed with vanilla custard or nutella, rolled in sugar and topped with a dot of the filling, like a little teaser on top, these delicious treats are an Italian specialty. Not to be confused with sufganiyot or zeppole, canoli or sfogliatella – the bombolone, and it’s diminutive form, the adorable bomboloni, will finally get the recognition it deserves. And it’s all happening this Monday…
Four chefs from across the city will face off to determine who makes the best bombolone, and all for a good cause.
Shelby Abate from Buca, Gabriele Di Marco from Oretta, Sarah Fiore from il Covo and Doug Neigel from Mercatto will be sharing their finest version of this classic Italian dessert and you get to taste them all and decide whose cuisine reigns supreme!
Along with a panel of judges, comprised of top Canadian food writers from Munchies, NOW Magazine and the Globe & Mail, you could be there for the historic moment when Toronto determines the winner of the first ever Bombolone Battle.
It all goes down on this Monday, November 19th, at 7pm at Constantine.
The best part? The event is in support of the Stop Food Community Centre. Get your tickets here and get ready to celebrate this Italian delight.
