Must Love Butter

We love local. We love butter. So we really go wild for local butter. Meet some of our absolute favourites – one that’s been a top seller for years and another that’s coming to the Dairy section soon.

Allow us to introduce you to some of the finest butter brands in the country, that just happen to come direct from Ontario cows.

St. Brigid’s Creamery is made by the van Nes family on the West Coast of Ontario using only 100% A2 Jersey cream. This rich and vibrant yellow butter is barrel churned to the European style 84% fat content.

“A2 means it’s made with cream from cows that only have the A2/A2 beta casein in their milk, which is found to be easier to digest among individuals who have issues digesting A1 beta casein, generally found in Canadian pooled dairy.” – the van Nes Family

We love their butter, but we don’t have it on shelves yet. It’s coming very soon so watch for it.

Stirling Butter has been around for more than 85 years. They started with one churn and a steam-powered pasteurizer. Now they offer an array of butters from coins flavoured with fresh herbs to unsalted sheets for professional bakers, to their special Stirling 84 which is 84% butterfat, 4% more than the Canadian standard.

“For the past thirty years, we have continued the Stirling tradition of barrel churning some of Canada’s finest butter in Stirling, Ontario using local, fresh sweet cream. Fresh buttery flavour that’s good enough to call one of the world’s best.” – the West Family

And now that you’ve been properly introduced, how best to use some local butter? Butter this good is divine spread on fresh baked bread, rolled into pie crust or slathered on pancakes. Or, since Halloween is just around the corner, why not try your hand at some of these butter forward sweet treats?
