Three Ways to Build a Fire

The leaves are changing, the temperature’s dropping.

Can you hear that sound? It’s your fireplace calling. Time to get firewood from Fiesta Gardens!

Here are three ways to ignite the spark, calm the flames and coax the burn during the chilly seasons.

1. The Classic

Familiar, steady and reliable. This is the kind of fire you’d bring home to Mom–or take axe throwing.

Use this method and everyone will be convinced your grandpa taught you how to do it when you were just a wee lad.

  • Arrange two large logs parallel to each other on the bottom as a sturdy foundation.
  • Place smaller logs perpendicular across the large logs, creating a layered, “log cabin.”
  • Nestle kindling and crumpled newspaper in the center for easy ignition.
  • Light from the center, allowing the fire to build outward.

2. The Burning Man

Get your phone out. This fire has a nostalgic look with flames licking upward. Just like a great insta moment, it looks good, but doesn’t last long. Be sure to wear your layered jewelry and something flowy.

  • Prop kindling up in a cone shape over a small pile of crumpled paper or other tinder.
  • Arrange larger logs around the kindling, maintaining that conical structure.
  • Light the tinder at the base of the cone to let flames climb upward.

3. The Upside-Down Surprise

Forget everything you know about fire-building. In fact, take everything you know and turn it upside down. This method is out of the box, but it works like a charm.

  • Put large logs on the bottom, stacking smaller logs on top in layers.
  • Add kindling and tinder at the very top layer.
  • Light the fire at the top, allowing it to burn down slowly through the layers.

Whether you prefer delivery or pick up, we’re ready with maple, birch, ash, and oak firewood. Fiesta’s firewood’s seasoned at least 18 months so no matter how you build your fire, it’ll burn more efficiently and leave a cleaner chimney.
